Saturday

We had our crawfish boil today. I think there were about half as many people as my husband had anticipated (though we had only invited a handful more in the first place – everyone I invited came, actually… – ), so we had loads of crawfish we had to peel and out into Tupperware afterward. But it was a really good time just hanging out with those specific people who did come. (No, I just remembered that one couple I invited didn’t come, because, though I had seen them this morning and they were planning to come then, my friend didn’t want to out pants on after her and her daughters’ nap, so they ended up not coming at all.) I really enjoyed it.

And my grandma came very unexpectedly. That was cool. And my husband’s brother, which was also unexpected. My own brother ended up staying with his wife until after ten PM (the party started at three), which was awesome. And the good friend of my husband, who had come with his whole family at the start, had returned after taking the kids back home and is still here, sleeping on our sofa. He and my husband had several more drinks than made me comfortable for their health and well-being, but they seemed to have enjoyed their time together very much, and neither of them is operating any moving vehicle, so I’ll accept it. I think the time together was rather important for the both of them. Life hasn’t been the easiest for either lately, and time with friends in invaluable, especially when life feels extra tough.

Thank you, God, for this blessing of a day. Please, keep everyone safe. Help us all to make choices that both serve you and your will and help us be the people you have made us to be, our best selves. In your name, I pray. Thank you for this life. Keep my husband and his friends safe. Amen.
