Sounds

Sometimes, my daughter and I do sounds back and forth, trading copying each other. I occasionally try tricking her into saying words with those sounds. She usually smiles at me when I do so, and then acts like I didn’t just say something for her to repeat. Tonight, just for fun, I threw at her, “Can you say, ‘Carhartt’?” She looked right at me and grinned, borderline giggling. ‘That was a good one, huh?’ Cracked us both up that I would say such a word that she definitely cannot yet say. She hasn’t made half the sounds of it yet, let alone putting them together in that specific permutation. She totally got the joke, and we had a moment of great goofiness together.

Thank you, God, for the goofiness we share. In your name, I pray. Amen.
