Sleep, please

Well, we’re going to bed at one AM tonight, but not because we weren’t tired. It’s because my husband unexpectedly got to be at a thing where the president was, and so we watched the TV to see my husband. Silly, I know, but it’s what we did. But we got to see him, and my daughter even recognized him and recognized his “boo-boo”, a bruised fingernail (which I had not even noticed was in view), pointing out both with excitement. So, it was worth it.

Then, we talked to my husband on the phone and on FaceTime for, apparently, a very long time. The event went longer than expected in the first place. Then my husband had to wait until he was back to the hotel to call us, since his phone had died. (Pretty much just down the street, but still.) He and I chatted with excitement about seeing him on TV, then he FaceTimed with our daughter for quite a while while I sewed.

Then it was suddenly 11PM, and we totally needed to clean up all of her toys and mess from the day, and go shower and get to bed. We’d made it to bed around 9:30 the past two nights, so this was a disappointment. But she was so happy chatting and playing with my husband that I just kept sewing. Even after he went to get ready for bed, I did a bit more, as she was content stacking and re-stacking some sewing patterns while I sewed. I took advantage of the somewhat rare opportunity to sew and work without interruption. It was great.

But then we both kind of hit walls and needed to sleep as soon as possible. So, goodnight.

Thank you, God, for the delights and successes of today. In your name, I pray. Amen.
