Nails

Having a father-daughter date tomorrow. We’re getting our nails done together, Jen going to lunch. And, as girly as that sounds, it isn’t. My dad has some foot fungus or something on one of his toes, and needs to keep it tidy and clean, so he has to get a pedicure about once a month. So, not so girly after all, ne? πŸ˜›

As for me, I’m hanging with my dad while also fixing up my feet and hands as best as possible in early preparation for the wedding. So, that part is girly. Much more so than usual for me. πŸ˜›

Thank you, God, for this opportunity. In your name, I pray. Amen.

Bruised

Well, my toenail on my second toe on my right foot is officially bruised. It’s actually reddish purple now. Not the whole thing, but the whole left side, all the way to just past the center, as well as a small spot on the right side. And the tip is still white, of course, because that doesn’t change since it’s already been unattached to the skin for a while. But the attached part does not look very comfortable. Fortunately (?), however, it doesn’t look like it will be falling off.

I’ve had that happen before. It isn’t exactly unpleasant, but it isn’t pleasant either. I suppose the worst part is afterward, while there is no nail to protect the sensitive skin of the toe that is now suddenly exposed to the world and to shoes. That part of it totally sucks, actually, but it is still doable, easily survived. Just very uncomfortable for a while, I suppose.

I event had a run today as part of the workout, and it was totally okay. And even pressing on that particular toe and toenail doesn’t hurt anymore, which is quite good.

But yeah, it doesn’t look like this nail is falling off. Partially and strongly bruised, but not killed. Much like my pride and drive after that date with that guy way back when. Or like my brother’s when he busted a piece of his fancy motorcycle while pushing it up the loading ramp for the trailer to take it home from the racetrack…. and then shortly thereafter when he had his bicycle stolen out of the back of his truck (though it was locked up), after he had felt like it was a bad idea to leave the bicycles back there while he and a friend went into the store…. yeah, kind of like that… except probably nowhere near as bad. This is just a light bruising compared to all of that.

So… yeah… πŸ˜›

And no, my hamstrings are not better today. However, despite the run, which wasn’t actually very difficult at all, they aren’t any worse than they were yesterday! πŸ™‚

Nailed it

Well, I was right: Cleaning under my toenails just about every time I shower has solved the issue of clipping them being a stinky experience.

I still don’t know what it is precisely that makes them always have the exact same, slightly odd but not exactly offensive smell every time, but I now know how to avoid that smell altogether.

I’ve been running a nail under each toenail almost every time I shower (maybe I forget once every ten days or so), and, every time I clip them or peel a snagged piece off, there’s no scent at all these days… so, problem-that-wasn’t-really-all-that-bad-but-that-was-a-bit-disconcerting solved!

Yay. πŸ˜›

P.S. Peter the pilot, from “The Bachelorette”, is so adorable… could he come date me?? (That is assuming he doesn’t marry her, of course…)

P.P.S. I know… “The Bachelorette”… really…

Ick

I hope you’re comfortable with discussion of bodily parts and dirtiness, because that is what follows here. πŸ˜›

I’ve just got to say: What is the deal with toenails?

Every time I shorten them, or even clean some fuzz (from the socks I’d just removed) out of them, it smells so stinky!

My feet typically do not smell bad.

And I never notice anything coming from the toenails.

Except, of course, when trimming them.

Am I really struggling that much with keeping them clean?…. is it actually that dirty underneath them, because I don’t clean them well enough???

That’s the only explanation I can imagine… and it totally freaks me out.

Totally.

I mean, am I carrying around grime in my feet all the time, and it only goes away by cutting the nail free, and, therefore, the creepy contents beneath it???

Eeeew!

That’s just gross.

And, the thing is, it is always the same smell… it never changes, if it is there at all.

Okay, I must get something I can use specifically to clean underneath my toenails every single night, a solid scrape of clean, since clearly soap and water don’t do the job.

Yikes… what a discovery… especially for someone who has panic around dirtiness…

Haha… that irony is actually hilarious… so long as I don’t think about the actual dirty, of course… πŸ˜›

How clean are your feet and toenails, really?
