Civic duty

I went to a town hall meeting tonight about a local fire. I learned a lot… mostly that my guesses were all accurate. Government does a lot of junk. Certain groups and people actually care and do their best with what they’re given. Most of them, however, don’t do a good job at all, avoid responsibility, and then hand off the absolute crap situations they allowed and half created to those who do care, and then those caring folks have to work even harder to pick up the pieces of junk handed to them.

So, yeah…

Oh, and the news article didn’t even report the right information that was given at the meeting. Talk about fake news… that was straight up false information in that article. When we read it, we had a feeling of, ‘Did you even attend the same meeting we did?’

People are dumb an unfortunate amount of the time…

God, help us, please. Amen.

The bright side

Well, the house only slightly smells like smoke now, and I almost don’t notice it, even when I’ve been outside for a while and walk back inside. Coolio. And I get to go to bed at a somewhat decent time tonight. Thank you, God. And thank you, God, for helping that get sorted out. And thank you, God, for giving us the tools and will and ability to work through all of this together, such that we leave a super sucky situation like last night actually in the past, complete, and step forward empowered together and individually in our relationships to ourselves and with one another. In gratitude, I pray. Amen.

Okay

Okay, I give up.
Take me where you want me to be.
Guide me where you need me, guide me where I need to be.
Help me to do what you need me to do,
And help me to do what I am here to do.
Make me ready to do
What I am made to do.
I give up resisting.
I am here.
I am yours.
Take me.
I love you.
Peace
Amen
And thank you

Mad hair day

I somehow love the days
when my hair is all crazed,
frizzy, frazzled, and fried.
Though tamed by a braid
and knot on the side,
it is, somehow, burstingly wild.
On days like these,
each time I see
my hair in a mirror
I smile.
Because, for once, it feels
that my hair reveals
that dame inside,
ever wild.

I am woman – hear me roar

Incense – *cough *cough

Here’s the deal: I made this new year’s incense with my mom. It smells lovely in the jar. I burned some at the start of the month, using only a small piece of charcoal (as I was about to go to bed, and didn’t want to use a whole charcoal for only one little bit of incense).  It worked beautifully, and smelled amazing. All went well.

Then, a few days later, I wanted to burn some more of the incense. I used a half of a charcoal this time, instead of just a tiny piece, because I was going to be up for a while, and so could add incense as it burned down. Almost immediately, the whole room started filling with smoke. And I know incense smokes. But this was different.  It was like fire smoke.  So, for fear of 1) smoking myself out and 2) setting off the fire alarm, I doused the whole thing with water.

I then left it a while – meaning days – before I returned to burn some again. Two attempts later, I had a very similar result. No, it was not quite as smoky as that second time.  It was still rather smoky, though.  And, get this: it didn’t even burn down all the incense.  So, I’m not even sure what was burning to be all smoky.  I need to defer to my mom on this one, as I genuinely am unsure as to what is going on here.  (To be fair, though, I could just be exhausted and not thinking straight. Genuine possibility. 😛 )

^ Remembered as I was writing it, so got it technically on the first effort!

Getting ready for bed

And suddenly, a smoke detector sounds upstairs…. Oh, no… her casserole for work tomorrow – casseroleS, actually – is burning… she’s not going to be happy about that… And then another smoke detector sounds in the living room… and then at the top to the stairs… and then right outside my door… all within ten seconds of the first one sounding.

Ugh… okay, guess I’m helping out on this one.  I grab a sweatshirt top by my door and head into the hall, waving it at the smoke detector as I open the front door, allowing the cool, clear air to swoosh into the house that suddenly smells very strongly of corn casserole.  She is yelling something upstairs.  What was that?  ‘Something’s burning,’?  Well, yeah, that makes sense – the smoke detectors are all going off… and you’re baking something… did you forget about that?  Man, she really IS tired… As I fan the smoke detector with my top, I swing the front door back and forth a bit to encourage the air flow to move the “smokey” air away from the smoke detector – fyi, there’s no visible smoke to be found down here.  I hear here shouting something about not being able to get something open.  The oven?  A window, possibly… probably…  Suddenly, I mentally halt: I was about to go shower, when the alarms started going off, so I’m standing here in a tank top (no bra) and underwear, for any passers-by to see.  😛

I continue my fanning, but now laughing along with my fanning.

When the alarms finally quit, – suddenly and all together – I head upstairs to see what’s going on.  And then I realize that she was shouting at the smoke detectors before, telling them that there’s no smoke anywhere (as opposed to telling me that something was burning).  That makes much more sense.  It’s also ironically funny.  No smoke to be found, but the whole neighborhood could think that something’s about to burn down, from the sound.
