Youch

And some days, you have an amazing day going with your friend and her baby to the beach, which is for the baby’s first-ever beach trip – by the way, she loved it! – , and the half-Mexican baby ends up totally fine with darker skin, and you and your girlfriend look like crawfish, just in time for the end of the season… Or, perhaps, I’m on my own on this one… 😛

Scratch my back?

One of the greatest parts of having a flatmate is the silly requests for help that are so easy and so acceptable. For example, ‘Could you use the trigger point gun on these muscles on my back that I can’t reach?’, ‘Could you scratch my back for me?’, ‘Would you help me do this stretch?’

Obviously, a lot of physical requests come to mind initially for me. However, they can be all sorts of requests, and they are all so easy and acceptable. I, for one, and so grateful for being able to help with and request help for them again. Tonight, my itchy back from the drying-out shower soap was grateful for the neighborly back scratch it got.

So, thank you, God, for such a fun and silly situation. I love you. Amen.

Speaking in song

“Have I told you lately that I love you?” I ask as I approach a friend first thing in the morning, at the gym. “And that I am incredibly grateful to have you in my life?”

He smiles a huge, clearly grateful smile, chuckles slightly, and replies, “Same,” slightly embarrassed yet glad.

Somehow, that song lyric was in my head as I walked up to him, and I realized that it was a valid thought to be having, too – I hadn’t told him lately that I love him. He is a very dear friend of mine, and I am incredibly grateful to have him in my life. I tell others this somewhat often, and I usually tell him, too. But I hadn’t lately. And our interaction yesterday merely supported how awesome he is and how wonderful it is and has been to have him in my life, especially this past year. True friends are a gift from God, I swear.

Thank you, God, for love and life and true friends. Thanks be to God, Hallelujah, and Amen!

Task board

Do you ever feel overwhelmed at merely the prospect of having so many things to do – or, even, that you want to do – that you determine just to stay out and not doing any of it at all??

Yeah… I’m working on not getting to the point right now. God, help me and us, please. Your will be done. In your name, I pray. Amen.

Seriously?? :P

She exits the bathroom refreshed from her nighttime shower and teeth cleaning, ready to do some stretching and reading and get to sleep… and she freezes. A wall of… What on Earth???? Uuggghh!… potent gas hits her in the face. Not the kind that is dangerous to one’s health, of course, but the kind dangerous for one’s constitution, for one’s keeping down cookies.

“Golly,” she says, “Sometimes one can be too comfortable spending the night at a friend’s house!” And she promptly turns on all the fans and lights a match and candle to disperse and destroy the smell as fast as possible, before she gags or passes out from the dense, noxious gas… and not for the first time…

Hoot-hoot, hoot-hoot

Night owlism showed up for me very strongly tonight. I got home a bit later than expected, and ate food and whatnot, but then got to work on unpacking and tidying. Each hour came and then went.. seven, eight, nine, ten… until midnight, I worked and got things moving for real. I doubt I will be up in three hours from now, so I pray for great sleep and rest tonight, God, and I thank you for this lovely and blessed life. In your name, I pray. Amen.

Bluebonnets, Baby

Today, we drove out to a small town northwest of Houston in search of bluebonnets. We stopped at a large gas station for a bathroom break after about SJ hour, then turned off on a local road and headed away from the highway. Within minutes, we found a lovely spot along the side of the road, and hopped out for some family portrait fun. And, truly, it was a lot of fun.

My friend and I both loved the photos I’d gotten of them, dog solos included, as well as the few photos she’d snapped of me with the baby – they were gorgeous and adorable photos. And I ended up looking like both a goddess and a mom, which was new and, in its lack of surprise, surprising – it just looked natural and right…, which was awesomely bizarre.

When we first hopped out of the car to get things started

Thank you, God, for that unexpected blessing, and for the wonderful ‘family time’ we had today. In your name, I pray with gratitude. Amen.

Heart and soul

Tonight, my mom and I continued our tradition of going to Shake Russell concerts. It was amazing, wonderful, so many good words and feelings. The venue was an adorable old barn-type place in town that we had never before noticed but that has apparently been a music venue for small events since 1969. Lyle Lovett and Shake Russell and many other known names apparently played there all throughout the years. And it was palpable in the space. Also, the sound system was awesome – the kind where you don’t even notice there’s a sound system, because it just works so beautifully and effectively.

Uh… it was just wonderful, y’all…

God blessed this night.

God, thank you for such an amazing and wonderful and heart-filling night tonight. Thank you for the absolute blessing that is Shake Russell and his music. And thank you for my family and all of the love that surrounded me tonight. I love you. Thank you. Please, guide me to fulfill your will in all things through my life. In your name, I pray. Amen.
