Home-y-ish

Today, I covered a few more steps in unpacking and setting up my living space. They were all a mix of things, big and small and in between, I suppose, but I am noticing now, as I prepare for bed, how all of them have made already a big difference.

There is a small lamp plugged in by the door now, and a vase and a little star with a light just sitting along the wall by one of my paintings… they are definitely not in their permanent places – like a huge percentage of the stuff I have been putting away these past two days – but just having them here, visible, with me has made it feel so much more comfortable, cozy here in my room. I feel more at-home, à l’aise. And it makes me want to do more, which, I believe, is a good sign and thing.

Alas, I must be at work tomorrow, but not until about 9:45am. So, I’ll have some morning time to get some things done. Dear God, please, help me to get up and going effectively early tomorrow morning such that I can be my best self all throughout the day and night tomorrow. In your name, I pray. Amen.

(Yup. Still have to think about the year!)

Bluebonnets, Baby

Today, we drove out to a small town northwest of Houston in search of bluebonnets. We stopped at a large gas station for a bathroom break after about SJ hour, then turned off on a local road and headed away from the highway. Within minutes, we found a lovely spot along the side of the road, and hopped out for some family portrait fun. And, truly, it was a lot of fun.

My friend and I both loved the photos I’d gotten of them, dog solos included, as well as the few photos she’d snapped of me with the baby – they were gorgeous and adorable photos. And I ended up looking like both a goddess and a mom, which was new and, in its lack of surprise, surprising – it just looked natural and right…, which was awesomely bizarre.

When we first hopped out of the car to get things started

Thank you, God, for that unexpected blessing, and for the wonderful ‘family time’ we had today. In your name, I pray with gratitude. Amen.

Some days…

La-dee-da-dee-dah-dah la-dee-dah…

Man, some days, it just feels like the world crushes you like a bug, and then you end up thinking of that final fight scene in Men in Black, and you get totally grossed out at the idea of all those bugs being squashed and eeeewwwww-ickk-gross!

Ugh… God, please, don’t make me figure this one out – just do as you wish, and I will follow suit wholeheartedly. Your will be done fully and forever. In your name I pray. Amen.

Arise

‘Arise,’ they told her.
‘Do it like this,’ they said.

‘It’ll be perfect,’ they promised.
But these were lies they said.
And so, instead of stepping up to being who they expected her to be, she stood up for who she truly was made to be.
And the world never was quite the same,
Once she’d set it aflame
With all that she truly was.
